BMW had a nice surprise installed for fans (and not only, many will be fans from now on, that’s for sure) at the 2005 Frankfurt auto show.. This surprise is a custom, very very cool version of the M6.
The car is customized by AC Schnitzer, and the BMW 6 Series, pimp-up versions of course, presented at the famous Frankfurt auto show, made all men gasp and women smile. It was received so well, that is production series just had to be made, being called the AC Schnitzer Tension Street Version.
This concept is no toy. We are talking about 544 hp with intake, exhaust and chip massaging. The Tension Steer Version also benefits from a dual-sports rear silencer with tailpipes, that make that nice booming sound every car-maniac loves so much. This BMW, and it is a very special BMW, also has great handling improvements, namely AC Schnitzer sports suspension spring kit and a strut tower brace, not to say of the Eibach springs that make the car move an inch closer to the ground. Tires are also AC Schnitzer, Type V’s with bicolor finish, 20 by 9.0 inches Michelin Pilot Sport 2s in the front and 20 by 10.0 in the back.
Aerodynamic concepts also make the Tension a fabulous BMW, there are 11 pieces all in all, front, side and rear skirts, front fenders and trunk lid and more. All over the car details have been taken real good care of, chrome finishes make a real good impression.
BMW have given forth more news about their Concept CS, presented before, when it was presented at the Shanghai auto-show. It seems BMW intends to use the concept on a premium sedan line, four seat and with sport traits.
The aim of BMW is to compete with cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and the upcoming Porsche Panamera, which are both named coupe, while they share with the the BMW Concept CS elements like: four-seat interior and a low roofline.Â
This is a well-designed concept car, that received excellent remarks at the Shanghai car show. And that is precisely why BMW intend to create a series based on this concept. Tom Purves, CEO of BMW of North America, says “We have a reasonable number of examples where we have built a concept car and relatively small examples where we have not built a concept car.” This proves that BMW is putting far more accent on luxury sedans this following period, as Tom Purves Tom adds: “It has aerodynamic style and presence, which is important for customers in that category.”
The market area that BMW intends to rule with this following line of cars, based on the Concept CS, is bove the 7 series but below Rolls-Royce models.
BMW 3 Series has a new member to it’s exquisite family, the 335i Coupe. And this model is, up to know, considered by most competent sources top of the line in performance coupes. Other competitors are the Porsche Cayman, the Audi S4 and the Cadillac CTS-V. Still, BMW’s 335i Coupe seems unbeatable on the track, offering great performance and maintaining, at the same time, the comfort and stability that a BMW should assure. The BMW 335i also went faster than the Infiniti G35 S, in an Autoweek test, even if the Infiniti has 6 more horses and weights 62 pounds less.Â
Under the hood of the BMW 335i Coupe is a state of the art engine, with dual turbochargers. So the 335i Coupe speeds on the track with 300 hp at 5800 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque, due to the V6 that has the two turbos, one for each half of the straight-six. Drivetrain is, of course, real-wheal drive, with final drive ratio of 3.08:1. Transmission is a sporty six-speed manual. In slalom tests, the 335i succeeded a 45.8 mph performance. The 3.0-liter engine is as high-tech as can be, and the dual turbochargers are a first on such a vehicle for BMW in the past 20 years. And they surely have no regrets about implementing such a system on the 335i Coupe..Â
Noted, on the bad parts category, were the flat-tires, that make the ride a bit harsh on imperfect terrain, and the lack of the iDrive. That, of course, for most buyers. Drivers with some experience feel no sadness concerning the lack of iDrive, actually testers at Autoweek praised this fact.
The BMW 335i Coupe starts at $41,295, but one is tempted to add some of the excellent options like leather upholstery, integrated garage-door opener, auto-diming mirrors, heated front seats or metallic paint. Consumption is 22 mpg EPA combined.
The 2008 model of the beloved BMW 6 series has been released and features some great improvements in look and options, both standard and optional, that makes it even more tempting. Both it’s front and rear visibility has been improved, sporting LED taillights, but also there are improvements on safety, comfort and sportive sides. It’s major improvements include the optional Sport Automatic with rpm matching on the downshift and paddle shifters, electronic shifter. There are a lot of more improvements that you can read about in the 25-pages press release.
It’s design uses both luxurious and sportive curves, making a stylish car, that could fit for almost anyone, of course, that can afford it.
It comes in two models, 650i coupe and 650 convertible, the first one being priced at $76,375 and the coupe costing $83,475.
BMW released some information and pics of the M3 convertible contrary to their customs. We thought that they were very busy with the Detroit Auto Show and they were going to release some details at the Geneva Auto Show in March. The new model will be propelled by a 4.0-liter engine with 420 HP and 295 lb-ft torque which boots the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Manual dual-clutch transmission, new suspension and high-performance brake system are some of the features. Being a convertible you probably want to know the opening time: 22 seconds. For now BMW just wants to show off their work but this might be a good strategy.
BMW announced at Detroit Auto Show that they start the production of the X6. The Bavarian company says that the car is a coupe-crossover combination. It has a nice interior but not very comfortable for those who are staying on the back-seat. For this model, BMW will use the new 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which uses direct-injection. The engine produces 407 HP and 450 lb-ft torque between 1800 and 4500 RPM. They say that this engine is the most economical and efficient in its class.
They have chosen a six-speed automatic transmission, but the driver can also change gears manually. Also, the car features xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control which is a little different by regular stability control systems and it’s supposed to be better and to give drivers a special feeling.
We are used to get exceptional cars from BMW and this hatchback model is one of them. We wish them the best and to keep making better and better concepts. We think this car will be one of the best in SUV-class.
After we presented the X6, it’s time to say a few words about the other cars unveiled by BMW. The first is the 335d and the second is the X5 xDrive35d, both powered by the 3.0-liter diesel. This engine produces 265 HP and 425 lb-ft torque and it’s supposed to be one of the most efficient and performing in its class. “BMW Cars” also promotes their particulate filters and the urea injection system which they named it BluePerformance. These cars are very green, but we don’t know their prices although we hope to give more informations soon.
Two designers of the Alpine USA team remodeled a BMW 6 Convertible and they named it Dark Sinister Six. For the engine they have chosen a 4.8-liter V8 which produces 367 HP and it accelerates the car from 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds. They worked very hard on designing both the exterior and the interior.
As you can see their work on restyling this car was not in vain. The 5-spoke black-colored rims were designed by the hot-rod manufacturer Boyd Coddington and have a width of 10-inches to 13-inches. The rims are dressed with Falken ZiEX S/TZ tires and the 360mm vented brake discs were produced by Brembo.
It’s a very interesting concept from the guys at Alpine and they managed to draw and built a very cool and attractive car. We hope that they will come and give shape to many other cars.
Hamann, a renowned German tuning company founded by Richard Hamann in 1986. They concentrate on cars like BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini, so their latest project is a BMW X5. The German Specialists named the project “Flash”.
Now, the SUV features new fender flares, roof spoiler, front and rear, and a special suspension as well as a new braking-system. Flash can be powered by either a 4.4-liter V8 which produces 368 HP or a 3.0sd which produces 320 HP. For both versions you will get a “powerful” exhaust which creates a sound beautiful enough to impress any audience.
The interior received special treatment, too - black-mat flooring, aluminum pedals and carbon fiber.
The automakers have to manufacture good-looking cars with an attractive interior, but they also have to develop new and better technologies. BMW will show up for the Geneva Motor Show with a special X5 - an environment-friendly SUV. The Vision EfficientDynamics Concept will be powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel hybrid engine which is capable of producing 204 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque and with the help of a compact generator which supplies the power with another 20 HP and 154 lb-ft of torque.
The X5 Concept also features a eight-speed gearbox manufactured by ZF, a regenerative braking system, solar panels on the roof and 19-inch rims.
